Oral hygiene is an important habit for maintaining oral health and can effectively prevent problems such as tooth decay, periodontal disease and bad breath.

I. Daily Cleaning Steps

Brush teeth

Frequency: At least twice a day (once in the morning and once in the evening), for 2 minutes each time.

Toothbrush selection: Soft-bristled toothbrush or electric toothbrush (with higher cleaning efficiency).

Toothpaste: Fluoride toothpaste (fluoride can prevent tooth decay).

Method

The Bass Technique: Hold the toothbrush at a 45-degree Angle to the gums, gently vibrate horizontally to clean the gingival grooves, and then brush the surface of the teeth vertically.

Cover all tooth surfaces (lateral, medial, occlusal surfaces).

Dental floss/interdental brush

Function: Remove dental plaque from the gaps between teeth (which cannot be completely cleaned by brushing).

Frequency of use: At least once a day (recommended to use before going to bed).

Alternative: Water floss (water flosser) is suitable for people with sensitive gums or those undergoing orthodontic treatment.

Mouthwash

Auxiliary function: kills bacteria and reduces oral bacteria, but it cannot replace brushing teeth.

Option: Alcohol-free formula (reduces irritation), chlorhexidine (short-term use, may stain teeth in the long term).

Ii. Other Matters needing Attention

Clean tongue coating

Use a tongue scraper or the back of a toothbrush to gently brush the tongue coating to reduce bacteria and bad breath.

The influence of diet

Reduce the intake of high-sugar and acidic foods (such as carbonated drinks) to prevent enamel erosion.

Rinse your mouth after meals (with clean water or fluoride mouthwash).

Regular inspection

Have your teeth cleaned once every six months (to remove tartar) and have an oral examination.

Iii. Suggestions for Special Groups

Children: Start brushing from the first tooth that comes in. Use fluoride toothpaste for children (the size of a grain of rice for children under 3 years old and the size of a pea for children over 3 years old).

Orthodontic patients: Use interdental brushes, orthodontic-specific dental floss, and water floss as an aid.

Sensitive or bleeding gums: Choose a super-soft-bristled toothbrush and seek medical attention promptly to rule out periodontal disease.
