The adaptability of patients who wear complete dentures for the first time varies greatly among individuals. Young and in good overall condition, with strong adaptability and quick recovery of chewing ability; On the contrary, the effect is relatively poor. Doctors should explain to patients the possible problems that may arise after wearing full dentures and the importance and significance of persistently wearing dentures for physical health, so that they have a full understanding and confidence in dentures.

(1) Overcome difficulties and build confidence in use: When wearing dentures for the first time, it is easy to experience a foreign body sensation. In severe cases, symptoms such as unclear pronunciation and drooling may occur. Patients need to build confidence and practice using dentures in their mouths for as long as possible without discomfort.

(2) Eating method: For those who have poor adaptability to dentures for the first time and have poor oral conditions (mainly low and flat alveolar ridges and enlarged tongues), it is required that they do not rush to eat. Only after eating should they put on the dentures to practice biting and speaking. When there is no discomfort and you are gradually getting used to it, you can start with soft food, break it into small pieces and put it in your mouth to chew slowly. Avoid opening your mouth wide and excessive lateral biting movements. After that, you can start with regular food.

(3) Correct bad occlusion habits: Due to long-term tooth loss in the mouth, the normal occlusion relationship between the upper and lower teeth is lost; Some patients have abnormal occlusal relationships due to wearing inappropriate full-mouth dentures, such as habitual anterior protrusion of the lower jaw and unilateral chewing. After wearing new dentures, their lower teeth cannot bite into the normal position. The patient was practicing swallowing in front of a mirror while biting both the upper and lower teeth. At this time, it was observed that the upper teeth covered the lower teeth, and the facial shape was normal.

(4) Hygiene and Maintenance: After meals (preferably after each meal), the patient should remove the denture, scrub it clean with a soft-bristled toothbrush, rinse the mouth, and then put it back in the mouth to keep the oral cavity and the denture clean and promote the health of oral tissues. Before going to bed, after cleaning the dentures, the patient can decide whether to wear them in the mouth according to their own requirements. If dentures are not worn at night, they should be soaked in clean water. Do not scald them with boiling water or soak them in medicine.

(5) Timely follow-up visits: If the patient experiences any discomfort during the use of dentures, they should return for a follow-up visit promptly. The dentures should be placed in the mouth 1 to 2 hours before coming to the hospital. This can clearly reflect the uncomfortable area of the mucosa and prevent the damage and loss of dentures.

(6) Service life: It is not the case that the longer a complete denture is used, the better. It is generally replaced once every 5 to 6 years. This is because when a new complete denture is completed, its tissue surface fits very closely with the oral tissue. However, after some time, due to the continuous absorption of the alveolar bone, the denture becomes less and less close to the oral tissue. If it is a porcelain tooth, this situation will be even more serious. Therefore, after a full denture has been fitted for a period of time, it is necessary to have regular check-ups at the hospital and replace or restore it with a filler according to the doctor's advice.
