I. Composition of Dental Implants
Implant (artificial tooth root
Made of biocompatible materials (such as pure titanium or titanium alloy), it is shaped like a screw and implanted into the alveolar bone to combine with the bone tissue (osseointegration).
Base platform
The components connecting the implant and the dental crown are usually made of metal or ceramic.
Dental crown
It looks similar to natural teeth and can be made of all-ceramic, porcelain-fused-to-metal or metal crowns, which are fixed on the abutment.
Ii. Applicable Population
Those who are missing a single, multiple or all of their teeth.
The alveolar bone condition is good (for those with insufficient bone mass, bone augmentation surgery can be performed first).
Good health, free from serious systemic diseases (such as uncontrolled diabetes, heart disease, etc.).
Iii. Advantages of Dental Implants
High simulation
Its appearance and function are close to those of natural teeth, looking beautiful and natural.
Protect adjacent teeth
There is no need to wear down the healthy teeth on both sides (traditional porcelain-fused-to-metal Bridges require teeth grinding).
Durable and long-lasting
If properly maintained, it can be used for more than 10 years, or even for a lifetime.
Maintain bone mass
Prevent alveolar bone atrophy (traditional dentures cannot prevent bone loss).
High comfort level
Stable and free of foreign body sensation, it avoids the loosening problem of removable dentures.
Iv. Surgical Procedure
Preoperative assessment
Oral examination, imaging examination (X-ray, CT), and plan formulation.
Implant the implant
The implant is placed in the alveolar bone under local anesthesia, and the operation takes approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Healing period (osseointegration
It usually takes 3 to 6 months for the implant to combine with the bone (during which a temporary denture can be worn).
Install the base and the dental crown
After healing, a mold was taken to customize a dental crown and the final restoration was carried out.
V. Postoperative Care
Short-term precautions
Avoid rinsing your mouth, smoking and strenuous exercise within 24 hours after the operation.
Take antibiotics or painkillers as prescribed by a doctor.
Long-term maintenance
Daily cleaning (using dental floss and water flossers) and regular check-ups (1 to 2 times a year).
Avoid biting hard objects (such as nuts and ice cubes).
